Mitch Woods
Mitch Woods*Happy Hour Concert Series* featuring Mitch WoodsBorn in Brooklyn in 1951, Mitch Woods is an American boogie-woogie, jump blues, and jazz pianist and singer. His musical journey began at age eight when he was captivated by boogie-woogie piano. By his mid-teens, he was forming bands in Greenwich Village. In 1970, Woods moved to San Francisco, where he formed Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88s in 1980, reviving the jump blues style of the 1940s and 1950s. The band released their debut album, Steady Date, in 1984, followed by several others, including Mr. Boogies Back in Town and Solid Gold Cadillac. Woods has performed at major festivals worldwide and collaborated with legends like John Lee Hooker and James Cotton. His music, which he terms rock-a-boogie, blends New Orleans rhythm and blues.
